Artocarpus Heterophyllus Tree 5 Large Seeds, Enormous Jack Fruit

Artocarpus Heterophyllus
Also known as: Jack Fruit

It is a species of tree in the fig, mulberry, and breadfruit family (Moraceae) and is native to southwest India. It is said to have been cultivated as far back as 3000-6000 years ago. Its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit, reaching as much as 80 lbs in weight, 35" in length, and 20" in diameter. A mature tree can produce about 100 to 200 fruits in a year. The flavor is comparable to a combination of apple, pineapple, mango, and banana.
Its multi cultural culinary uses are way to many to list here and not much is wasted. Everything from the seeds, the pulp, the flower pedals and the tree leaves themselves can be used in different types of dishes & drinks.

Unripe jackfruit does have a mild flavor and meat-like texture and it is used in dishes with spices and is especially sought after by vegetarians who substitute this for meat!

The golden yellow timber with good grain is used for building furniture and house construction. It is termite-proof and is superior to teak for building furniture. It is also used for the production of musical instruments, barrels, and boats.
It is a tropical to subtropical evergreen that will reach about 30-70' tall.
Best grown in deep, rich, acidic, consistently and evenly moist, well drained soils in full sun. Plants generally like warm, sunny, humid conditions. Avoid dry soils. Plants perform best in frost free climates. Established plants will tolerate an occasional light frost, but young plants may be killed by any frost.
