Ricinus Communis
Also known as: Castor Bean

Castor Bean despite its name, is not a true bean and is indigenous to the southeastern Mediterranean Basin, Eastern Africa, and India, but is widespread throughout tropical regions and widely grown elsewhere as an ornamental plant. It is an erect tender perennial that is grown in warmer regions and is an annual in colder climates. It can grow rapidly 6-10' tall in a single season. It is known for its huge glossy toothed green/purple leaves and its red/brown seed pods. Jewelry is often made of castor seeds, particularly necklaces and bracelets.
